When One Door Closes, Another Opens (Preferably to a Room with a View)

Well, dear readers, it seems the universe had other plans for me this week. My carefully orchestrated schedule of book tours and writerly rendezvous with fellow authors? Vanished like the last chapter of an unfinished manuscript. There I was, all set for days of creative collaboration, long chats over coffee, and the joy of meeting readers. But as we all know, life has a funny way of redirecting our paths when we least expect it.

Instead of wallowing in disappointment (OK, some wallowing did happen), I decided to embark on a little quest. The mission? Find the perfect spot where I could immerse myself in writing and recharge my batteries. I needed a place where inspiration would flow as freely as the tide, and where peace would be as abundant as my ideas (on a good day, that is).

Enter Mercy by the Sea Retreat and Conference Center.

Picture this: Long Island Sound stretching out before you, a view so breathtaking it could inspire even the most stubborn case of writer's block. The moment I arrived, I knew I'd stumbled upon something special. It was the kind of place that makes you want to write a novel, or at the very least, a really good postcard.

Today marks day one of my impromptu retreat, and I'm settling in nicely. The itinerary is beautifully simple: write, take beach walks, repeat. Oh, and did I mention the three meals a day and the round-the-clock coffee bar? That's right - unlimited caffeine. It's as if they knew a writer was coming and prepared accordingly.

Stay tuned, dear readers. This seaside adventure is just beginning, and I have a feeling it's going to be more rewarding than finding that perfect sentence you've been crafting for hours. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a date with my laptop and a view that's making me question all my life choices. Wish me luck!

Jane
