Well, dear readers, the second day of my retreat at Mercy by the Sea has confirmed what I suspected yesterday: I’m exactly where I need to be.
After a day of settling in, soaking up the sea air, and indulging in a steady stream of coffee, I’ve started to find my creative rhythm. It turns out that this place is more than just a picturesque retreat center; it’s a writer’s sanctuary. There’s something about the way the waves lap against the shore, as if they’re whispering secrets to anyone willing to listen. And trust me, I’m all ears.
The day started with a morning walk along the beach. The ocean was calm, reflecting the early morning sun like a mirror, and I found myself lost in thought, ideas floating in and out like the waves. There’s a certain magic in these quiet moments, where the only sound is the gentle hum of nature and the occasional seagull making its presence known.
Back in my cozy little writing nook, with a view that’s quickly becoming my muse, I dove into my work. And by work, I mean the kind of writing that doesn’t feel like work at all. The words flowed more easily today, as if the story has been waiting for me to arrive at this exact spot, at this exact time. There’s a joy in that, in finding the flow that every writer seeks but rarely finds in the chaos of everyday life.
Adding to the delight of this retreat is the unexpected joy of reconnecting with a clergy friend who just happens to be here too. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about sharing this peaceful space with someone who understands the unique blend of spirituality and creativity that a place like this fosters. Our conversations have been a balm, providing both inspiration and a comforting sense of camaraderie.
As day two comes to a close, I feel so grateful for this experience. This retreat is offering more than just a chance to write; it’s providing an opportunity to reconnect—with my work, with nature, and with a wonderful friend. I’m looking forward to seeing where the rest of this retreat takes me, but for now, I’m content with the knowledge that I’ve found a rhythm here that I didn’t know I was missing.
Stay tuned, dear readers. If today is any indication, this retreat is shaping up to be more productive—and more peaceful—than I ever could have planned. Now, I’m off to watch the sunset and maybe even write a few more pages. Until tomorrow!
